Frequently Asked Questions

General

What makes Cocobeet different?

Our goal at Cocobeet is to make truly healthy, high quality, and nutrient-dense juices, smoothies, and pure foods accessible to the Boston community.

  • High quality: Our products are unprocessed, organic, local, GMO-free, and made on-site
  • Nutrient-dense: Our ingredients are 100% plant-based, packed with only the good stuff. And thanks to our industry-leading, first-of-its-kind juicer, our cold-pressed juices and juice cleanses offer 5X the nutrition than made-to-order competitors.
  • Accessible and delicious: You can live a busy life and still be healthy, just grab-and-go: 25+ juices and smoothies, multiple juice cleanse options to cater to your individual needs, and the largest vegan grab-and-go menu in Boston.
  • No HPP!: Our juices are raw. We do not use any industry tricks to extend the shelf life of our juices. Truly fresh juice expires in days. Juices that have undergone high-pressure pasteurization (HPP) in a factory can be over one month old.

We bring health food out from the fringes and into your daily life.

What is organic?

Organic foods are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, GMOs (genetically modified organisms), and farmed using methods that emphasize sustainability.

Is your produce all organic?

At Cocobeet, we are committed to using organic produce in our cold-pressed juices, smoothies, and vegan fare.  We believe that eating organic is healthier, safer, and better for the environment. We make every effort to source 100% organic produce in our product.  When it is impossible to source organically, we try to fill the gap with local produce that is farmed using sources we trust.

Are your products vegan? Gluten-free?

Vegan diets exclude all animal products, including meat, fish, eggs, and dairy. All of our juices, smoothies, and pure food products are 100% vegan and thus dairy-free. With the exception of sandwiches on vegan sprouted grain Ezekiel bread, our products are entirely gluten-free.

Can you guarantee the removal of allergens for customers with allergies?

No. Our stores are full of allergens (nuts, seeds, spices, fruits, vegetables, etc..). There is always risk of cross-contamination and human error. Should you have allergic reactions to ingredients served at Cocobeet, it is best to consider alternatives for eating if you are not comfortable with the high risk of cross-contamination, direct contamination, or human error.

Do you use local ingredients?

As a small, local business ourselves, we love and actively support local. We use Boston and New England product whenever possible. As our business becomes more established, we continue to develop direct relationships with area sources. If you’re a local farmer — reach out to us! We’d love to work with you.

Where are you located?

Juices, Smoothies, Raw Foods

What does cold-pressed mean?

Cold-pressing is the process we use to create the most nutrient-dense, fresh, and delicious juices possible.

Most made-to-order and homemade juices are created using centrifugal machines — a process that extracts far fewer nutrients, and can neutralize or destroy nutrients and live enzymes. High pressure processing (HPP) techniques, used to increase shelf-life for many store-bought juices, degrades the quality of the product. Juices are HPP’d in industrial plants — not the kind of plants we like or use. HPP juices are NOT fresh, lasting up to 45 days, and they do not warrant a premium price tag.

At Cocobeet, our juices are made fresh, in-house, using a technique that preserves all of the goodness that the juices have to offer.

In our cold-pressed juicing process, organic fruits and vegetables are first crushed into a slurry, then the hydraulic press squeezes out every drop of goodness. This gentle extraction process preserves enzymes and nutrients and results in the freshest tasting juice possible. Fresh, cold-pressed juice can be bottled for up to 4 days.

At Cocobeet, we use the #1 juicer in the world. It is a first-of-its-kind, NSF-certified piece of machinery. Cocobeet juices contain 5x the nutrients of all made-to-order juices; our juicer extracts 2x more nutrients than any other cold-press machine. Cocobeet received the first NSF-certified cold-pressed juicer when it arrived on our doorstep in January.

Why are your juices so expensive?

Our prices may seem, at first glance, higher than what you might expect; however, there is no comparison in the product you receive.

Our pricing reflects our use of local, unprocessed, and organic ingredients. We use no tricks to extend our shelf life. We do not have high profit margins. We simply do not compromise on the quality of our ingredients. And we believe good health and fueling your body right is worth it.

What is the difference between a juice and a smoothie?

Our juices are created from cold-pressing organic fruits and vegetables. Our smoothies contain whole organic fruits and vegetables that are blended with other nutrient-dense items like nuts, seeds, and heart-healthy oils to create a power-packed, more filling product. Juice has all the nutrients and is quickly absorbed to fuel your body with little energy required. Smoothies are fiber-rich and serve as energy-packed snacks and/or meal replacements.

Do your products contain sugar?

We do not use refined sugar in any of our products. Some of our products are lightly sweetened using very small amounts of maple syrup and agave. We minimize sweeteners to keep the glycemic index (GI) on all of our products as low as possible.

What’s the shelf life of your juices, smoothies, and pure foods?

Generally 3-4 days for our juices and 2-3 days for our smoothies. Our products are fresh and unprocessed, using no preservatives or pasteurization methods. Raw is best for your body; juices that expire in days — not weeks — are the ones you want.

Juice and Pure Food Cleanses

Why do a Cocobeet juice cleanse?

You’ll break free from urges and jumpstart the process towards sustainable, healthy living.  The short answer: a Cocobeet juice cleanse helps you feel your very best.

What is a Cocobeet cleanse like?

We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to health or cleansing. Depending on your experience, needs, and activity level, Cocobeet offers multiple cleanse plans.

The length of your juice cleanse is totally up to you. Some people choose to cleanse from 1 – 3 days; others work with us to create flexible cleanses that last from 5, 7, or even 14 days.

All-liquid juice cleanses:

  • The Plant Packed® Cleanse is an intense juice cleanse for the experienced cleanser, and includes 6 juices and one power mylk;
  • The Reroot® Cleanse includes two power smoothies who need extra energy and a sense of fullness during the day.

Juice and raw food cleanses:

  • The Cocobeet Transition Cleanse is our gentlest cleanse, and includes two solid food options in addition to three juices and one power smoothie.

Depending on the length of your cleanse, you can combine any of the above to meet your goals.

Education and instruction is also part of the plan to support your efforts. Talk to us to see what the best choice is for YOU. Read more about the appropriate cleanse option for your lifestyle and goals.

Is juice cleansing safe?

It makes sense to be wary: when done improperly, juice cleanses can be extreme and counterproductive.

At Cocobeet, we have put together cleanses in a thoughtful, nutritionally balanced way. We offer a number of options so that you can find just the right fit for your needs and activity level. We are not extreme. Good health is only achievable if it is sustainable.

If you have particular health concerns, are diabetic, or pregnant, we recommend working with your doctor to incorporate cleansing in a safe way.

How should I prepare for my cleanse?

Leading up to the juice cleanse, cut back and eliminate refined sugar, meat & dairy, processed food, nicotine, alcohol, gluten, and caffeine. Supplement your diet with more raw foods, fruits, and vegetables. Drink lots of water. And congratulate yourself on these first steps to lifelong health.

Will I be Hungry?

It is normal to feel hungry at times during a cleanse. Choose a cleanse level that is appropriate for your activity level, and thoroughly hydrate throughout the day.

At Cocobeet, we have detox cleanse options to fit every person and every lifestyle.

Will I Lose Weight?

We at Cocobeet believe that the goal of cleansing is overall good health; this may or may not include weight loss. Results vary with the individual. Keep in mind the bigger picture of feeling at your best and very healthiest.

We shy away from a focus on weight. We prefer to emphasize fueling your body the right way and approaching diet with a longer-term view in mind. Detox and feel great with a juice cleanse, not a juice fast.

Can I Exercise?

We recommend avoiding highly strenuous activity during the cleanse. Continue to participate in your regular activities, but remember that this is a time for your body to restore and heal.

What other items should I Avoid?

Avoid coffee/caffeine (only green tea if necessary), alcohol, cigarettes, and gum during your cleanse.

How often should I cleanse?

As part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle, you can cleanse frequently. Many of our customers do a 3 – 5 day cleanse on a monthly basis.

How do I maintain the benefits post-cleanse?

Here’s the best news of all — your juice cleanse jumpstarts a healthy, plant-packed way of eating into a sustainable way of life. Take the principles of the cleanse — organic, pure foods, plant-packed eating, and the elimination of processed foods and refined sugars – and incorporate them as part of your daily routine. The benefits don’t stop with the cleanse. And cleanse again whenever you feel like you need a refresher.
